So many people are using products to clean their vulvas and vagina that just end up doing harm, even products that claim to be specially formulated for the area. “Organic”, “limited ingredient”, “pH balanced”, “formulated for the sensitive vaginal area”—most of these products should be used on the vulva or inserted into the vagina. Any one of the ingredients in any one of these products can, and usually do, cause some level of irritation, itching, inflammation, rashes, yeast infections, no matter how gentle the product claims to be.
WATER is the best thing you can using to clean your vulva and you should never douche or flush out your vagina! The vagina is SELF CLEANING.
Seriously! Why do you think it discharges all month long?
To help gravity drag stuff out of there like dead epithelial cells, bad bacteria, yeast, and other crap like that doesn’t belong in there but it doesn’t need your help doing it, and as I mentioned in my post about vaginal fluids, your vulva and vagina are supposed to have a scent-there is a purpose for it-go check it out!
This website (Women’s voices for the earth) has some hilarious youtube videos on the summer’s eve products which contain harmful chemicals as well as un-labeled spermicide. Check them out, they’re pretty good!

This is directly from Summer’s Eve douche products:
An association has been reported between douching and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), ectopic pregnancy, and infertility.
In the early 1900’s the Lysol brand marketed their product as a douche to women!! WTF?!? It is not a new concept that companies have been preying on women and our insecurities (or maybe these companies are the cause of our insecurities…..) and are getting us to believe that maybe our vulvas and vaginas ARE dirty and stinky, why else would they make the products and be approved to sell them, right??
OUR VAGINAS AND VULVAS ARE NOT DIRTY (OR STINKY LOL)
Stop letting companies tell you that you are dirty or should be self concious about the natural scent your bits are supposed to have! Companies who, by the way, have the knowledge that they are pushing a product on to you that is terrible for your vaginal health yet to help their profit margins they continue to sell these un-needed products.
You can, and probably should, absolutely wash your backside with soap and a cloth etc. but let’s stop being so harsh to our vulva’s and stick with plain water!
Now go throw out any products you have marketed as use for vaginal cleansing or freshening or deodorizing and take a stand against people who don’t even have vaginas telling you how to take care of one!
Disclaimer: There are a few companies out there like the YES brand who have made products that are actually ok to use on your vulva, and have made lubes and vaginal moisturizers but they are in a whole different class than what you can pick up in a Target/Walmart/or other supermarket. I know it seems like I am contradicting myself but there are companies who fill a needed gap in vulvovaginal health care, you just need to look into their backgrounds and maybe do a keyword search for “is X bad for you” and if it contains an ingredient that is known to be bad for vulva’s/vagina’s you can find it just like when I mentioned above with the Summer’s Eve. A simple Google search immediately showed me the ingredients and when looking at what each of the ingredients can, AND DO, do to our delicate bits it’s not cool.
I guess all I’m saying is if you come across a products, whether it’s meant for vulvar use or any product you want to use on yourself, take the few minutes to look into what it’s made of and make sure you are willing to take the risk of dealing with what those ingredients do to you.
Be well everyone!
